i think rm5000 is an OK amount. u can still eat and buy things with that money. but you must choose where to buy and eat, as prices differ from one shop to one shop. as for monthly cost, maybe around rm4000 to rm5000.

Monthly cost of living depends on you. It can be nothing if you have free lodging and food and utilities and no need to travel to work and over RM20k if you buy a Mercedes, rent a bungalow etc. There are many people earning less that RM5k in KL and are financially OK and there are those who earn RM20k and have nothing left over each month. Let me list out some costs and you can decide if this is correct for you. 1. Tax - 15%? You did not say if your salary is net or gross. Income tax is deducted from your salary monthly, so that will be RM750 2. EPF - 9% - So about RM500 (May not be applicable to you though) 3. Rent - RM300 for a room and perhaps RM1k for an apartment (depend on location) 4. Travel - Public transport is not good in KL, so if you need to move around, you may end up taking taxis (horrors!) or buying a car (RM300 a month and petrol depends on your travelling?) or a bike (will be cheaper) 5. Food - RM5 for a cheap meal, could be up to RM10 for a normal meal. So these are the basics, the rest (e.g. partying) is up to you. By the way, you should ask this question in Malaysia section instead of Singapore.
