We received a work offer from the above mentioned co. for work in Kuala Lumpur and they want us to go through a office that they recommended and pay monies for a working permit in KL. As I have read other answers it seems to be the employers responsibility to obtain the permit and not ours.

Tell'm to stuff it - sounds like a scam to me. The website below belongs to the company and gives contact information where you can direct your questions. I believe they need to know about this so they may file charges.
