Is it safe for my girlfriend to travel alone, taking a bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur? Because I will be meeting her there...anyone heard of anything bad? She is working in Singapore, and I happen to drop to Malaysia for some meeting, and we want to save time by just waiting for her there. Any good but inexpensive hotel to suggest too? Thanks!

It is rather safe to travel alone in Malaysia. Do beware of pickpockets in crowded areas though. Also refrain from wandering on the streets at night. They have been reports of missing children in the country lately, but unlikely for tourists to be targetted. Please do make sure that the company that operates buses from Singapore to KL is of a high reputation one and avoid travelling at night. Good luck and have a pleasant stay!

Malaysia is a safe country. If you want to be on the safe side, don't let your girlfriend save pennies on taking the cheapest option. Let her travel in VIP aircon busses that go non-stop from Singapore to KL.

This means that she is taking the Singapore>>>Kuala Lumpur express coach/bus. As long as you picks her up from the bus terminal at the puduraya, this will be safe. Avoid traveling at night or late night arrival.As the down town bus station is infested with drug addicts , beggars and rude RELA sickos. As for good not too expensive hotels , do try Fortuna (behind BBintang McD) or the Swissgarden in chinatown ( quite near to Puduraya bus station)

Don't worry. She'll be alright. Just ask her to be extra careful with her belongings when she arrives at the crowded bus station. This is an advise not a warning. The cheapest hotel you can get in town is the no-frill hotel TuneHotel ( http://www.tunehotel.com ). Very cheap, as low as RM9.99 per night. Of course at this rate, a very basic room is expected.

I travelled alone in the Far East ... Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Manila. Sadly, the only bad experience i had was in Kuala Lumpur. I was robbed in kuala lumpur. Is it safe in Malaysia? Based on my personal experience, I would say NO, its not safe.
